who we are

We are a new research lab in the Department of Molecular Biology & Biochemistry at the University of California, Irvine. We are recruiting students, postdocs, and other research personnel to explore the unseen connections between animals and the microbial world. Our work draws on diverse fields—including molecular and cellular biology, genetics, immunology, ecology, evolution, and biophysics—to uncover mechanisms that shape host–microbe relationships. We aspire to build a more integrated picture of how microscopic interactions at the molecular and cellular scale control the assembly and function of macroscopic host–microbe systems.

We are committed to fostering a creative, inclusive, and collaborative research environment where we value scientific rigor and fearless curiosity. We dedicate ourselves to the process of discovery as much as the end result because we believe that this enables us to grow as scientists as well as individuals.

Inquiries about joining our group, material requests, or general questions can be sent to travis.wiles@uci.edu.
